Bollywood Heroe In Woman dress -

Actor's 'Drag' it out!

According to many directors, and we emphasise 'many', cross-dressing has been the sure shot way of bringing in the humour element in a movie. With Shreyas Talpade and Javed Jaffrey being the newest entrants in the list of actors dressing in drag, we have a look at the other cross-dressers in Bollywood, some who passed the test to convince and some who failed miserably.

Ajay Devgan, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, Arshad Warsi - Golmaal Returns
Though this is not Shreyas's first time, we are still reeling from the shock that he, Ajay, Tusshar and Arshad gave us in Golmaal Returns. Their garish dresses, over-the-top wigs and awful makeup gave women a real bad name. Who were they trying to kid, anyway!

Salman Khan - Jaan-E-Mann
What was most surprising to notice after seeing Salman dressed as a woman was how those bulging biceps and buffed bod fit into a dress! That definitely was a 'Revolution' (read clothing for women in larger sizes)! The alpha male Salman was hardly convincing as a lady and seemed rather uncomfortable in his scenes. We wonder how much convincing it took to make Sallu go drag.

Aamir Khan - Baazee
They don't call him one of the best actors in the industry for nothing. His act in Baazee could have fooled anyone for he was the only actor who perfected the drag look in the industry, humour intact. Aamir also enthralled audiences with the half woman and man sequence in the Tata Sky Ad; it was truly marvelous.

Ritesh Deshmukh - Apna Sapna Money Money
Anupam Kher really didn't need glasses for he definitely was blind in Apna Sapna., when he fell head-over-heels in love with 'Sania' aka Ritesh Deshmukh. Ritesh also shook a leg in the entire getup in the much famous song Guitar. The fake coloured wig, double breast pads and made-to-fit salwar kameezes were the definition of womanly perfection for Kher. but we beg to differ!

Akshay Kumar - Khiladi
Along with Deepak Tijori, action man Akshay Kumar donned the drag look in the romantic thriller Khiladi (1992). We don't know how they could ever be mistaken for women but in the film, their professor Tinnu Anand actually hits on them and they score when female students allow them to sleep in their beds. There were a couple of humorous moments through it all.but we'll say no more.

Kamal Haasan - Chachi 420
An actor who managed to keep his dignity intact while playing drag has to be Kamal Haasan. The perfectionist, who dressed up as an old woman in Chachi 420, a rip-off of Mrs. Doubtfire, managed to do so successfully. Though the getup and the fantastic makeup were key elements in the film's success, it was Kamal's brilliant performance as the demure and extremely funny Chachi that took the actual cake in the end.

Amitabh Bachchan: Laawaris
Who can forget the hairy, towering woman in a red choli singing the immensely popular song Mere Angne Mein in Laawaris. Amitabh Bachchan is obviously a very bad choice to ever play a woman but the song and Big B's crazy antics made it a hit among people all over. Even now, the song's popularity is only so because of Big B's feminine presence.
